My- my mom sometimes makes suppers, just quick for the family at night but my dad- that's his goal for the weekend. He gets up in the morning, looks at his cookbook, and picks out a recipe for the day (laughs).

Oh it was very, very nice yes. We were married in the Church and we had the supper in the Church after and yeah. Verna was my little- I don't know what should call her.

big sign of commitment, and I-don't-know. I think it was something we be both decided, and then one day we started looking at rings and then one thing led to the other I guess and the proposal wasn't that big of a deal. I had a little supper ready for her. We did a lot of long distance. That was the thing about our relationship too which really shows the solidarity. Like when I lived in England for two months she was here. So that's an overseas long distance relationship for two months and that was- that was

... we stayed at a resort, like um it was s-- it was called ha-- like half-board so not- it wasn't fully inclusive ah for your drinks and for breakfast, lunch, supper. But it was- it gave us a breakfast and a lunch.

Speaker: We had our bus. If we weren't without our supper and we went until twelve- Interviewer: (inc) you couldn't phone home because there was no phone at phone (laughs).

Ah, they would have ah some sort of a thing outside where you're- competition or-something and run past four-o'clock. We'd say, "Oh can we go?" "You're deserting your team." "We got to go. We'll have no supper. We'll just get home and (laughs), we won't have our homework done or anything." (laughs) Ah- you-know?

Yeah. You didn't go home. Forget about it. Forget about supper (laughs).

We'd had to be outside. That was the rule. And we didn't come home until we were called home for supper. And we that once we heard my mom yell all of our names to- ... Get home for supper, we better damn well get home for supper. ... Or we weren't eating.

Speaker: (Laughs) I went ah, partied a little too hard and I missed we-- supper one night. Interviewer: Missed supper? That is- is that- (laughs) is that it? Speaker: (Laughs) Yeah, I was ah, partying a little hard there and- I started at ten-o'clock 'cause the bar opens at ten there.

Speaker: It's a card game. Interviewer: Yeah? Speaker: And um first day we were at- um like we got there in time for supper so we went to Jack-Astors. And it was a table of girls with a guy waiter. Interviewer: Okay. Speaker: And we asked him if we could take a picture with him (laughs). Interviewer 2: (Laughs). Speaker: So we did.

It was the first word that came to your mind and come the end it started- we had got- talking about peanut-butter sandwiches for supper everyday. Interviewer: (Laughs). Speaker: And then we went to Lindsay-Lohan being in jail and- Interviewer: (Laughs). Speaker: Just somehow it all tied back to a pet iguana.

Speaker: I take all the big ones. And then a war starts and then we're find a Nerf- Nerf-gun bullets for the next three months. Interviewer: (Laughs) That's funny. Speaker: My mom would actually cook supper during one of our wars. That's what we call it and she was spaghetti this one day and Allen decided he was going to run through the kitchen upstairs. Well I was chasing him with the gun, I shot a bullet, it went into the spaghetti sauce.

Speaker: And another thing I learned from that video was um you tell the kid to do something. And it's not, "Go do this now." It's, "Okay Brian, sometime before supper can you go take out the trash?" Interviewer: Mm-hm. Speaker: Supper comes, if they haven't taken out the trash, just don't set a- like don't set a place for them. Interviewer: Yeah? Speaker: And a little before supper, remind them, "Remember, I said, Brain, you have to go and put out the trash before supper." And- supper comes and there's not a place set for them, they'll go take out the trash.

They were probably about a dozen kids my age who were still going to school, of course. So, there were- I had good friends there. You-know, we played cards, we went to dances, we went to- out to supper. Just- you-know, not- not romantically or-anything but just a good group of kids. We played lots of cards and just go-- curled together.

In the bush and swim and lakes we didn't even know and fish in them and come back for supper- ... Come back when we got hungry.

He does because you knew when it was noon because the sun was like blar-- blazing over your head- ... And by supper time it was going down, so you knew enough to come home and eat.

Interviewer: So at home, were you ah- were you guys close with your neighbours, everyone in the neighbourhood? Speaker: Yes, uh-huh. We played games after supper especially with the neighbourhood kids.

Interviewer: So when did you meet your husband? Speaker: Oh, I met him um at a supper in the church. He was ah- we're United-Church and he was too and he was growing up in (inc). And ah, he was on the farm until he was about sixteen and then he came down here and (inc) at the supper then and so wasn't immediately that we went out but ah he was- he was in the ah young people's too and we used to ah we'd go to that together. It was interesting (laughs).

And sometimes people are stupid. I-mean, there's ah ah ah- property just down the street from us, it has a really big tree. And ah, I was headed out for a walk so it was late in the day after supper. And ah, I'm walking away from this house and bunch of people are running towards me. "Where you guys going?" "Oh, there's a bear up a tree."

Speaker: Arthritis and she's ended up- she's been laid up for two-and-a-half-years from the hospital to the nursing home. Interviewer: Oh no. Speaker: So I still have them- ah had them last night. Ah, take them out for supper and to let them come home and watch television and enjoy their own home. So that's how it ended up.
