To me the big thing is, who takes advantage of it? It's the tourists, it's not the locals. Because what do you do. You get up in the morning, you go to work, you come home, you're tired. So, you're going to cook supper, watch a little T-V, and go to bed. And you do that in Resolute, you do that in Timmins, you do that in Toronto, you do it in New-York-City.

So it was different in that sense but the dance was good. And we had a supper, that was different than ours, like a full-blown supper like th-- three, four-course meal, so.

On a- I d-- ah, ah, when I got into the hospital I had to see this woman, and I says "You-know I was going to go to strawberry supper tom-- tomorrow night." And she says "Oh you'll be able to go."

After we got all the work done on the farm and after supper we used to grab our fish-poles and head for- it was a- about a half a mile back to the creek.

And he was- he was walking the field plowing. And he- he come in and he didn't- he didn't feel good and he didn't eat any- anything- din-- dinner time- or supper time, I guess, you called it then. And he died within about a half an hour probably. ... He had a heart attack. A massive coronary heart attack.

Well we went across country to that and we went after supper and we come home a daylight- in daylight the next morning. And all the- all the kids got either laid on a bed or laid on coats on the floor and we just slept while the adults danced (laughs).

Everything was okay, so he goes back to school. Then we come home, I think it was six-o'clock we got home and then checked the sheep, kind-of like just ah you-know, find out what happened for the day and had s-- late supper and then I was up 'til- she went (laughs) to bed early nine-o'clock but see I was up 'til midnight, just after midnight 'cause I went and ten-o'clock when I checked the barn, it looked like this one (inc) was going yo-- was going to lamb.

Interviewer: And you call it the- the ti-- the meal at lunchtime, at noon was called lunch. Speaker: We called it dinner. Interviewer: Yeah. Speaker: And supper at evening. Interviewer: Yeah. Speaker: That was those years.

It's every second week. And it's almost like a house party. There's only about five tables. So I go over there when that's on. But we've a nice time. But there's- and- last night I was at- the home support have this ah, ah, supper every- once a month. O-- at the legion. And ah, they provide a very nice supper and they always have some entertainment. So I was at it.

Speaker: First day of hunting season. So the deal always was, eh? Whoever shot the deer that night, he had to buy a bottle of whiskey. (inc) basement, that's my basement. Interviewer: (Laughs) Speaker: In come the deer eh? At night, the old Chuckey (inc) supper that night 'cause the young lad was only sixteen years old. He went to the liquor store and bought twenty-six (inc).

Speaker 2: Supper at the legion? Speaker: Yeah. Speaker 2: Yeah. Speaker: Monday night. Speaker 2: Home support. Speaker: And they used to buy the- the lunch and supper. Interviewer: That's a great idea. Speaker: And then they have an orchestra come in.

Speaker 2: And another couple was sitting there and I said, "Come on, Renee. Come on, we're getting up." So the got up with us. And we danced and everybody clapped and ooo. Speaker: We ate supper, boy. Speaker 2: Yeah.

Five dollars jackpot. ... And then we have- we have a five dollar one and a ten dollar one, jackpot. So- oh we have a ball. Just- and we had a big supper on Wednesday night. ... They had- we had hash brown potatoes, we had meatballs and- with pineapples and-

It was college, right? And then um second semester our neighbours, who ah we never talked to before 'cause they party all the time, um they invited us over for supper. So we went over, we had a few drinks. We found out they were actually super nice and ever since then we just made tons of friends.

Um and me and my sister were playing like monkeys on a bed and we were jumping around holding hands and she dropped me and like the- the metal bedframe, I fell back and I hit my head on the metal bedframe and that day I didn't eat all my supper so I didn't get dessert and there was strawberries. She thought, you-know, little- little kid um- I was very young and little- she thought I had hidden strawberries in my hair 'cause I was bleeding ...

Interviewer: You- you must have had quite a conversation at the supper table- ... That night. Speaker: Oh no doubt, no doubt. Interviewer 2: (Laughs) Speaker: No I didn't have any supper, I don't think because I was so mad at them-

Speaker: So this was a big day for us and of course, the men had horse- or um, horseshoe pitching. Interviewer: Yup. Speaker: That was a big thing after supper at night. And the mosquitos were so bad that they would have pails of- of um, fire in them you-know, to cause smoke and that would chase the mosquitos away, you see? But the kids watched the men too you-know?

So Timmy came home at supper time and- and we had supper. I had the hot meal ready for them and- and ah, the two kids wanted to go out and- and play ah catch you-know outside, you-know?

So anyway, I waited 'til they had their dinner and-that and I said to Timmy, we'll take ah our tea out on the little patio at the back. He lived in a town-house then. And um, he said, "What's a matter mother? Y-- you seemed preoccupied at supper time-" ... You-know, I- and I told him and he was a lot like his dad and Timmy was a lot like his dad. He didn't give you an answer right away and Sammy never did.

My sister was a good cook. She cooked supper.
