Okay well forget that. But I mean like we 're just talking about a city-centre to live let 's not get political here right? But okay you got Montreal you got okay Quebec. Then you had like Winnipeg. They were probably like little hick-towns back in those days right? Vancouver knew nothing about Vancouver when I was growing up. I didn 't even know Vancouver existed right? Um but um well yeah Toronto I mean ah. Immigrants.

Um. I think we probably definitely have our own hick-ish I-don't-know language going on.

Interviewer: So it's just a Burnt-River thing? It doesn't spread out anywhere else? What about Kinmount? Speaker: Yeah. Kinmount a bit yeah. It's more hick than Burnt-River maybe. It's- I-don't-know.

Um, between Deseronto and the reserve there is, I don't think there is so much in Belleville. 'Cause Belleville is such a like- it's such an integrated town already, like it's so cultured, and Deseronto's kind of like a step above hick.

Speaker 1: That's funny 'cause that's in Davey's monologue, I remember that. Speaker 2: Do you? Speaker 1: Yeah. Speaker 2: A hick accent? Interviewer: 'Cause that's one of the things we were asking all the communities

Speaker 1: Like I don't notice it. Like Adam's never said- Speaker 2: It's a hick accent anyway. Speaker 1: Adam's never said to me that I have an accent. He's never- and like he's from the city.

Speaker: Like people- some people who live here have hick accents.

Like a lot of the guys. You get guys from like Toronto or Scarborough or Mississauga and they have all the like, you-know like they say "Dawg" and like "Bro" and you-know and like we don't talk like that, you-know. And-like and then we have our own kind-of like hick slang though, I think you-know. That we'll say- I-don't-know, I can't really think of anything but there's always so often I'll kind-of say something and people are like "What is that?" It's because its a North-Bay like kind-of hick thing, you-know and-stuff.

Yeah like I think that- yeah I think North-Bay has its own kind-of mixture of like a French and kind-of just like a hick kind-of slang- like you always get the no G's on stuff which as a Engli-- like 'cause my mom is an English major, like we get the you-know like people- "lookin'" and "seein'" and you drop the G's off everything and- I find North-Bay has this also and I- I get bad for this 'cause I say "like" all the time.

They kind-of like, you-know, like you see like a guy in the mall talking French and he's wearing a skidoo jacket, you-know-what-I-mean? Like that whole thing you-know-what-I-mean it's kind-of like that "Oh there's that guy. He's like a French hick guy right?"

You might use words you-know more- that are more- considered more you-know hick you-know more like a hick way of talking or whatever you-know I think it all depends yeah.

Which it really isn't because there's so much more like land on top of us (laughs). Um, and they also see it as a really big hick town. Not a big hick town but it's- it's very hick because the population's like just over a thousand. (laughs) Um, but yeah. But I don't think there's really anything that truly defines this town for me anyway. Yeah. It's just where I come from, that's all (laughs).

Speaker: Compared that to "Here Thurstan, you could have the ah the eight-millimetre and go shoot at- shoot at squirrels and- and bring them home and take them apart and we'll show you how to cook them." Interviewer: Yeah. Speaker: You can't- come on people. Get with the program. I'm a hick farm boy.

And so that was a more of a- more of the Canadian accent, um- yeah like um- there- there definitely is, for sure, like there's that- you don't want to say hick accent, but there's that- that small-town kind-of- more like the south we have that mo-- like the south just different,

Um there was like the artsy-weirdo-kids, which was me and a lot of our friends and the jock sort of kids which kind of melded in with the sort of like hick, backwoods, country kids and- there's all sorts of them, but there was- I don't-know we all knew each other cause we all grew up together for so long that you kind of cross paths...
